Short Height

“Is my child short?” is a query that understandably bogs many parents. Very often, General Paediatricians are too busy with treating fevers, pneumonias, asthma and similar conditions, that a parent’s concern about low height could get undermined. Age-appropriate increase in a child’s height and weight is actually a very essential component and indicator of their well-being.

Any concerns about a child’s height or weight need to be taken seriously and evaluated by means of full consultation, a thorough understanding of parental concerns, examination of the child, plotting a growth chart {see tab on growth chart }, interpreting the child’s growth in the context of his/ her parents and siblings. This enables us to reassure parents in many cases, and in others, pick up subtle diseases that show up with low height and/ or weight.
